A Boatload of Great Values From Burgundy! Our ship has come in, loaded with great values from our direct-import estates in Burgundy - Jean and Gilles Lafouge, Martin Bart, Vincent Rapet, Gabriel Billard, Rene Bouvier and Jean Fery. These are wonderful estates that receive great critical acclaim in France but remain relatively unknown in the US. That enables us to import them directly and offer them to you at fabulous prices given the lovely quality of these wines. While they will all drink nicely this summer, showing their youthful fruit, be sure to put away some of the Premier Crus to enjoy at maturity. This is a great opportunity to purchase good Burgundy at very reasonable prices - don't delay, as many quantities are limited... (And coming soon, the beautiful wines of Fanny Sabre, in Beaune!) Items Mentioned in this Article:
Cote-de-Beaune Billard 2007 Bourgogne Cuvee MillianeOld-vine Pinot Noir from sisters Laurance Jobard and Mireille Desmonet. Very pretty bright red fruits on a frame of minerals and good acidity - a light bodied Pinot that's elegant now and will improve with a few years of cellaring. red | 41 in stock | $21.99 |
Rapet 2007 Pernand-Vergelesses Les Belles FillesElegant red fruits on the nose along with some nice X-mas spice. The palate is medium-bodied with lovely, bright red fruits. Great purity and nice chalky minerality. A very pretty Pernand to drink over the next 5 years. red | 10 in stock | $23.99 |
Rapet 2008 Beaune 1er Cru Bressandes Very pretty floral, plum and raspberry aromas, medium to full palate with elegant balace and good strucutre for aging. A lovely Beaune Bressandes at a very reasonable price. 40 to 50 year-old vines, 30 HL/HA. red | 9 in stock | $38.99 |
Rapet 2008 Pernand-Vergelesses 1er Cru Ile de VergelessesIle de Vergelesses is one of the top premier crus in the Cote de Beaune and Vincent Rapet's is always one of the best. Elegant red fruit aromatics lead to a well-structured palate with good acidity. This will age well, it's dense but light on it's feet and has good length and nice minerality in the finish. red | 24 in stock | $44.99 |
Lafouge 2008 Auxey-Duresses RougeThis "regular" cuvée of Auxey-Duresses is lovely again in 2008! Light to medium-bodied, it has very pretty aromas of spicy raspberry and strawberry fruit with a balanced earthy palate and bright acidity - a great value for drinking now and over the next few years. red | 27 in stock | $23.99 |
Lafouge 2008 Pommards 1er Cru Les Chanlins2008 is a very good vintage for the Lafouge Chanlins. Lovely plum and red fruit aromas, quite plump with soft acidity. The palate is round and full with quite complex fruit and good length. This borders on Volnay, physically and stylistically. Will drink well young, but will be nice in 10 years also... red | 12 in stock | $41.99 |
Billard 2006 Beaune 1er Cru Les Epenotes On the lower slope in Beaune, bordering Pommard les Epenots, this is a relatively full and spicy Burgundy with a dense strawberry palate and soft tannins. Drink now or hold for five to eight years. red | 8 in stock | $34.99 |
Billard 2005 Pommard Les Vaumuriens The 2005 Vaumuriens (a lieu-dit above Les Rugiens) shows lovely floral and citrus-tinged plum aromas. The deep red fruits are focused and well-balanced - a very nice Pommard that should be decanted or cellared for a few more years. red | 9 in stock | $41.99 |
Fery 2007 Pernand-Vergelesses 1er Cru Les VergelessesThe Fery 2007's reds, made by the Pascal Marchand, are quite full and pretty - this Pernand is a great example. There are minty and calcaire notes to the complex, ripe red fruits. Soft and open enough to drink young, it should keep nicely in the 6 to 10 year range. From 55 year-old vines, bottled unfined, unfiltered, in conversion to organic certification. red | 32 in stock | $36.99 |
Fery, Jean 2007 Bourgogne Haute Cotes-de-BeauneFrom a 35 year-old experimental vineyard including all types of Pinot then available. Quite full-bodied, with dark red fruit aromas and hints of graphite. Plump and soft, this is a lovely Burgundy to drink young in a ripe, forward style. red | 14 in stock | $21.99 |
Fery, Jean 2007 Savigny-les-Beaunes Ez Connardises Vieilles VignesFrom a 2 hectare parcel near Ile de Vergelesses, a mix of young and 80 year-old vines. Quite dark and spicy strawberry fruit, a complex earthy mid-palate, well-structured. This is a big wine that drinks well now but will benefit from a couple of years in the cellar. red | 21 in stock | $28.99 |
Cote-de-Nuit Bart 2009 Marsannay RoseA lovely vintage for the Bart Rose, it's a bit prettier and riper than the 2008, but still very dry and elegant. It's a very stylish Pinot Noir Rosé with hints of strawberry fruit that will accompany just about anything all summer long, and it's a great value! pink | 57 in stock | $14.99 |
Fery, Jean 2007 Cotes de Nuits-Villages Clos de MagnyJust barely a Cote de Nuits, the Clos de Magny is a parcel on limestone at the top of the slope in Corgolin and has been a vineyard since 900, AD, that is. The current vines are 60 years-old and the wine has cherryish, ripe black and red fruits. It'a a big, supple wine that will be great fun to drink over the next 3 to 5 years. red | 13 in stock | $28.99 |
Misc. Burgundy Sabre 2009 Bourgogne Passetoutgrain From a small parcel just below the Route Nationale in Volnay, 70% Pinot Noir and 30% Gamay, the vines are 40 to 50 years-old. Quite delicious and a fabulous value, this has supple raspberry and plum fruit and a lovely finish. A great intro to the elegant, old-fashioned Burgundies of the talented Fanny Sabre, who worked with Philippe Pacalet for many years but is blazing her own trail. red | 15 in stock | $13.99 |
Burgundy White Rapet 2008 Pernand 1er Cru En CaradeuxEn Caradeux is a great Premier Cru vineyard, just opposite Corton Charlemagne. A hint of oak with complex lelmon, herbal and chalky fruit. There is good stony acidity but the wine is round and forward enough to enjoy now. A lovely White Burgundy at a great price. white | 7 in stock | $36.99 |
